About Carmen

Carmen Carbonell developed a love of music early in life and began studying piano at the age of seven. As a performer, she aspires to connect emotionally with each member of her audience while honoring the intentions of the composer through careful attention to detail. She has been featured as a pianist, vocalist, and organist in several venues, including Boston’s historic Old North Church and at the American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division Conference. Carmen enjoys sharing pieces from a wide variety of musical styles and time periods with her audience, including keyboard and vocal music from the Baroque and Romantic eras as well as pieces from modern genres such as Musical Theater.

In addition to her passion for performing, Carmen is a dedicated music educator. She currently serves as a Teaching Artist for the Early Childhood Music program at New England Conservatory, providing group music education for children ages zero to six. Carmen manages her own private studio, teaching piano, voice, and music theory to students of all ages and abilities. She brings a broad range of skills to her approach with over fifteen years of experience in Music Education, Special Education, and Early Childhood Education. As an educator, she strives to help each student excel while also helping them to find fun, joy, and self-expression through music! 

Carmen holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Syracuse University where she graduated with honors. While attending, she received The George Mulfinger Prize for highest achievement in solo piano as well as the Lena Corbin Prize for highest achievement in solo piano by a graduating senior. She went on to study organ and historical keyboards in the Masters program at Boston University. Along with her study of music, Carmen has completed additional graduate study in the areas of music education, child development, and psychology. She holds a Master’s Degree within the field of special education from Simmons University.

 

Carmen lives in Woburn, Massachusetts with her husband, Gian-Paul, and their dog, Monte.
